He’s been on a reasonably regular Horse journey since he reactivated his dormant backing band in 2018, with Lofgren changing stalwart guitarist Frank ‘Poncho’ Sampedro. Since then, the Horse have galloped by Younger’s schedules: a trio of latest studio albums recorded with Lofgren – Colorado, Barn and World File – have vied with archival, Poncho-era releases, together with ‘misplaced’ album Toast and Dume, a radical growth of Zuma. If something, this blurring of musical timelines – to be anticipated, maybe, from the person who wrote “After The Goldrush” and “Pocahontas” – have reminded us of the indomitable spirit of the Horse and the gravitational pull they evidently exert on Younger.
