Attempt spelling that while you’re pissed then! Which Picnic? Joking apart, this enjoyable riot of a band launch a debut that takes the piss and in addition will get critical in your arse when it feels prefer it. A mad mix of rock metallic rap psych that flirts with genres and rocks like fuck. First observe Rawkuss simply bangs in with angle, flirting with Gizzard, Hawkwind and ACDC in a single pot, even with the loopy metallic guitar solo and screaming vocals which even convey Cabbage to thoughts. Creepin Jesus begins off like a sluggish constructing Mudhoney observe then lets rip into some critical quick paced storage psych that blows the lid off the neighbours bins with quick as fuck drums and a few insane riffing all through. A smasher that fades out like an previous Seventies observe.
Magikal Revenge slows the tempo down a little bit bit, then picks up with some good bass and drums, layered with psych guitar and the raspy voice of Malt Jones coming throughout like Liam Maher from Flowered Up on coke and 40 B&H. It’s that psychological, particularly with the metallic solos seeping all through. Gravity Lies is available in sluggish and psych with a moody bass line and a few futuristic spoken phrase straight from a sci fi film. It builds slowly and has touches of The Mars Volta glowing all through, particularly when the chunky riff bangs in to blow your wig off earlier than slowing down once more. Suppose Black Gap Solar on mushrooms. It closes with a rumbling bass and a mad wig out within the final minute and explodes and sputters out earlier than you understand it.
Fireplace Respiration Dragon is a high as fuck grunge quantity with an enormous Geordie like riff teaming up with Pantera for a nu metallic occasion. It’s a seven and a half minute banger that rocks with the rolls and punches excessive on the solo meter. After two minutes it goes all bizarre psych once more with some gloomy synth from Ewan Fitzgerald earlier than a sluggish doom riff from Bonj (not Jovi) slowly rises with some intelligent drums from Sam Davies who seems like he is aware of his approach round his package. Malt seems like someones stubbed a cig out on his arse at this level and is cursing the burn. It sounds nice. It’s a tune that dabbles with the whole lot and a sound of 4 mad bastards having amusing. The guitar assault within the outro is brutal as fuck.
Columbo No.5 is a two and half minute belter with a high bass line, screaming riff and vocals, hand clapping, the works. It’s a high piece of storage that our Nathan Whittle would undoubtedly play on his present. Beautiful and loud! I don’t actually know what to make of closing observe Frostbite. I’d name it hip hop psychedelia, the rap isn’t really that unhealthy. It’s not gangster and it’s not attempting to be masculine, it’s an try at rap venturing into psychedelia that goes all kraut rock for the final three minutes with a little bit of accelerated Hawkwind wigging out for the finale, which for my part goes within the course of Rage Towards The Machine for a second.
It’s a daring debut from the Hasting lads that goes in all instructions and has the sound of the children having a celebration and a riot with completely different genres. Who is aware of the place they’ll go subsequent? I’ll definitely be keeping track of them…
